Sunset & Full Moon
Kayak Tour

Lake Huron has sunsets —
some extraordinary enough
to stop you mid-stroke.

Most people don't know that. They think of the eastern lower peninsula's Lake Huron shoreline and its sunrises, but here in the Les Cheneaux Islands we can see the setting sun.

You've probably spent part of your day surrounded by people — ferries, forts, and the beautiful chaos that makes the UP worth the drive. There's a different version of this region waiting for you at dusk. Quiet, unhurried, and genuinely yours for a few hours.

A guided sunset paddle is about 2.5 hours on the water at the best possible moment of the day. Solar lanterns glowing as the light fades. A chef-made dessert enjoyed right there on the water. A small group, a guide who knows these islands deeply, and nothing on the agenda except being present for whatever the sky decides to do.

Whether you're opening your UP trip with something memorable, recovering from a full day of waterfalls and scoring a parking spot and everything else the UP does so well, or spending your last evening before the drive home — this is the right way to end a Lake Huron day. Beats scrolling in a hotel room.

No experience necessary. Start times vary with the sunset — we'll let you know exactly when to arrive. Plan on returning to shore around 9:30–10pm. We recommend eating dinner beforehand.

On full moon nights, we paddle dates when the moon is at its fullest — and when conditions align, watching it rise over the islands while solar lanterns light the water around you is something else entirely. But even when clouds have other ideas, these are still magical evenings on the water. The moon is the bonus. The experience is the thing. Tandems required for full moon paddles.
