Slow travel.
Curated experiences. Uncrowded waters.
mLive got it right —
and we're glad they did.
Sue was interviewed about paddling the Les Cheneaux Islands, what makes this corner of Lake Huron special, and what Woods & Waters is all about. Inserted in the Sunday, June 9, 2024 Chicago Tribune — digitally flip to page 14.
One of the best regional travel magazines in the Midwest spent time in the Les Cheneaux and wrote about what they found. We were glad to be part of the story.
Woods & Waters makes the list twice
in Paddling Magazine's nine best paddling experiences in Michigan's Upper Peninsula — No. 2 for
shipwreck paddling and No. 9
for wildlife-filled island kayaking.
We'll take it.
If you're interested in the small wreck in Hessel Bay,
the Behling brothers behind mi playground
checked it out and posted a
YouTube video (watch here).
As a note, this spot is far from the mainland and exposed to the "big lake" so wind and waves are common and the closest island is not public land. Although we can plan a trip to paddle over it, conditions may prohibit actually seeing it. This is not a destination for rental paddle boarders or kayakers.
