Some experiences don't fit neatly into a day. They need a sunset, a night sky, and a morning on the water to fully land.
Government Island sits in the heart of the Les Cheneaux — part of the Hiawatha National Forest, accessible only by water, and one of the few places in Michigan where you can genuinely step away from everything for a night. Cedar-lined shores. Eagles overhead. A stillness in the evening that creates the kind of space where real conversations happen, phones stay in pockets, and the people you came with get your full attention.
This is the trip that becomes a story. The one your group references for years — "remember that night on the island?" We've been running overnights out here long enough to know that different people want different things from a night on Government Island. Some want the full experience handed to them. Some want to earn it. Some fall somewhere in between. So we built three ways to do it — each one a genuine night on a genuine island, just with a different level of involvement from us.
You Camp, We Shuttle
You know what you're doing on the water and at camp. You rent sea kayaks from us and paddle yourself out — we handle your camping gear, shuttled to the island by motorboat and picked up the next morning. The experience is entirely yours.
You Camp, We Guide
A capable camper who wants a guide on the water. Someone to handle the route, the logistics, and the on-water decisions while you focus on the experience. You take care of your own meals and camp setup.
You Relax, We Do the Rest
Your guide is with you from first stroke to final landing. Camp is set up before you arrive — including 3"+ foam sleep pads for a genuinely good night's sleep. Dinner is prepared in advance by a local chef trained at the Les Cheneaux Culinary School, taking your dietary needs and preferences into account, and your guide handles the final cooking on the island — so what lands on your plate is anything but ordinary. Your guide starts the morning coffee, and when you're ready, leads the paddle back to shore late morning. All you have to do is show up and be present.
There's no wrong answer — just the right fit for your group. Reach out and we'll help you figure out which version is yours.
