The Little Dipper Tours
Offered Daily @ 8:30 am
We like to start these trips earlier in the day to take advantage of Lake Huron's usually calm mornings. A custom start time can usually be accommodated — give us a call.
A perfect short adventure for experiencing the Les Cheneaux Islands first-hand from the water that is well-suited to absolute beginners, tight vacation schedules, families with younger paddlers (see below), or individuals unsure of their physical endurance. Your short — but sweet — time on the water will give you a delicious first taste of what is so special and unique about the Les Cheneaux Islands. We expect to see you again for another tour because this area is truly like nowhere else in Michigan and we think, like us, that you'll fall in love.
For people interested in a guided SUP tour, we have guides who love SUPing and are able to offer the Little Dipper as a stand-up paddle board tour. Contact us to inquire about tour availability.
Paddling time averages 2 hours. All levels welcome!
Have Kids?
Our Little Dipper kayak trips are very suitable for kids who can listen well and sit on their own in the front of a tandem (2-person) sea kayak (often around age 5). If you have kids interested in paddling their own kayak, we recommend they have an adventurous spirit, not be afraid of falling in the water, and capable of doing sustained physical activity (often 10–12 years of age). We recognize that you know your know your kids best, but we want to discuss these younger solo paddlers to make sure we reserve the right kayak for them, so please call or email and chat with us.
If you're wondering about the value of a guided tour experience, read our thoughts about why you should join a guided trip in this blog post Why Take a Guided Kayaking Trip Instead of Renting.
Note: Although we can take requests for a tour route, we will always pick the best place to paddle depending on the day's forecast. All guided kayaking trips include top-quality sea kayaks, all associated gear, and trained kayak guide. Every trip starts with a beach talk where we teach basic kayaking information.
