We previously successfully ran small lodge-based trips on Isle Royale limited to 10–12 people, plus two guides. Unfortunately, in late 2021, Rock Harbor Lodge management notified us that they were no longer allowing reservations for guided-group travel. At present, tour operators like us still have no options. We are not the only organization impacted.

We hope that eventually we can resume our 4-, 5-, and 6-night trips to the island. We do not have any specific answers as to why the Lodge made this decision or how or when they will change course. Aramark has taken over from Forever Resorts as the ISRO Concessionaire and we partially assume that with record-breaking visitation levels, the Lodge doesn't need organized travel to help maintain occupancy rates.

For those wondering why we simply don't book rooms, we rely on the Lodge to provide family-style meals, and if they aren't working with groups, tour operators are left without logistically-practical options to feed guests on a remote island. We continue to maintain an email notification list — please contact us to be added or how to reach the appropriate Aramark Experiences office to request working with tour operators again so you can visit the part the way you'd like to.
