Aldo Leopold Paddle 2023

Join us on these special paddles during the Aldo Leopold Festival!

Aldo Leopold’s family were longtime seasonal residents of the Les Cheneaux Club, located on Marquette Island. We will paddle tandem sea kayaks while talking about Leopold's life, the evolution of his thoughts on ecology, and his long-term influences on conservation toward the Leopold family cottage site (which no longer exists). Les Cheneaux Club historian Charles Fels will also share a brief history of Aldo and his family with a landing on Club property. We will return to the mainland and take a guided hike through the Little Traverse Conservancy’s Derby Preserve, named for a family farm that supplied much of the early Club’s provisions.
